About the Active School Initiative – What is it?
The Active School Flag is a Department of Education and Skills initiative, organised through Mayo Education Centre and supported by Healthy Ireland, which aims to recognise schools that strive to achieve a physically active and physically educated school community. The process aims to get more schools, more active, more often. Our challenge will be to find interesting and exciting ways to energize the school day because active children are happy learners!

Our Active School Committee
Our first step in the process has been to establish an Active Schools Committee of eager, creative and inspiring members of our school community. Meet our Active Schools Committee below:

Emma and Matthew (6th Class), Tom and Clara (5th Class), Conor (4th class), Lauren (3rd Class), Holly (2nd Class), Ellie May (1st Class), Tom (Senior Infants) and Joey Dolan (Junior Infants)
St. Mogue’s N.S.’s Active School Committee has regular meetings to come up with lots of exciting ideas to make our school a more active and physically educated place to be. The Committee members also provide a vital link between the teachers, students, our active partners and the wider school community. As we set out to renew our Active School’s Flag, they have a busy, energetic and exciting time ahead!!

Our Active School Noticeboard
Our Active School’s Notice Board is located in our main school corridor. All updates, upcoming activities, the results of our After School Club survey and our Active School slogan are posted here. Keep an eye on our noticeboard regularly to stay up to date with our active advice, the plans of our committee and any upcoming Active School Events.

Our Active School Slogan
Our first Active School slogan chosen in 2021 was: ‘Téigh Amuigh Agus Bí Ag Rith’
We relaunched an Active Schools Slogan Art Competition in September 2025 to come up with a new Active Schools motto. All classes worked hard and there was a wonderful variety of entries. Our Active School Committee chose our winning entry created by Grace Maguire:
‘You Don’t Need to be Wealthy to be Healthy’.
