PHYSICAL EDUCATION (P.E.)
The P.E. curriculum provides children with learning opportunities through the medium of movement and contributes to their overall development by helping them to lead full, active and healthy lives. There are six strands in the P.E. curriculum-
- Athletics
- Dance
- Gymnastics
- Games
- Outdoor and adventure activities
- Aquatics
Teachers cover each of the above six strands over the school year.
The explicit teaching of fundamental motor skills are incorporated into all P.E. lessons in line with St. Mogue’s overall school plan. The following skills are targeted each year:

P.E. School Plan
Our staff collaboratively reviewed our School P.E. Plan. Quite a few changes were made and this revised plan was ratified by our Board of Management.
Aquatics
In the case of aquatics, children in the middle and senior classrooms get a 6-week block of swimming lessons in Cavan Swimming Pool.

PAWS
The on-land water safety programme “PAWS” is taught to all classes each year. This year a member of PAWS Education team visited St. Mogue’s N.S. and tauht all classes about the importance of water safety.

Additional Coaching
In addition, all classes get a 6-week block of G.A.A. coaching with Cavan GAA, a six-week block of basketball coaching with Riccardo and 30/40 minutes week FMS and GAA coaching with Philip Bohan. The pupils are really enjoying the variety of lessons provided and making great progress- lots of fun and skill-building happening!
