St. Mogue’s National School, Currin (Scoil Náisiúnta Naomh Maodhóg, Currin) is a co-educational Roman Catholic school under the patronage of the Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of Kilmore. There are three mainstream class teachers, two Special Education Teachers (SET) and two Special Needs Assistants (SNA) in the school. We currently have 68 children on our roll.
We are very proud of the school with its rich tradition of teaching and learning, together with sport and music. We take great pride in providing a safe and secure learning environment for all children of varying abilities and needs. Our school motto is: “Ag súgradh, ag foghlaim agus ag fás le chéile” (“Playing, learning and growing together”). Great emphasis is placed on fostering mutual and self-respect, which underpin the happy and secure atmosphere in our school.
Our staff is committed to establishing and maintaining a school environment that allows our pupils to grow spiritually, intellectually, emotionally, and socially.

We rocked our socks for World Down Syndrome Day on 23rd March.
“Rock Your Socks” is an internationally recognised campaign for World Down Syndrome Day, where everyone wears colourful, funky socks to join in with the fun of the day. Why colourful socks?….because chromosomes under a microscope look a bit like socks! A person with Down Syndrome has an extra 21st chromosome, three instead of two.
Wearing funky socks is also a visual aid to show that everyone is joining in, and that although we may all be different, we all share unique qualities and characteristics. It is a fun and easy way to celebrate, but also recognise the importance and awareness of Down Syndrome
What a fantastic day we had at the Peace Proms in the RDS on Sunday 8th February!! 43 of our students joined 2,000 other children from schools across the country, to perform with a full orchestra in front of a packed venue. It was an amazing opportunity and an unforgettable day for everyone involved. Check out the highlights video below…
The boys and girls in Junior Infants, Senior Infants and 1st Class had a lovely day out in Ballinamore recently with Killeshandra NS as part of the PEACEPLUS Aspire initiative. They enjoyed a reading session at the library followed by a clay workshop at the Leitrim School of Art, where they created beautiful glazed pieces. It was a very enjoyable and educational day out for all the children. All the photos from the day can be found on the school website. For all the photos from the day, check out the gallery (or click HERE for a shortcut)
We celebrated Grandparents Day January 21st, with a beautiful mass in our school. Refreshments were served afterwards which gave everyone a chance to catch up over a cup of tea. A huge ‘thank you’ to all our grandparents, the wider school community, the school staff, Fr Sean and all our wonderful boys and girls for making it such a special day. We were absolutely delighted to welcome the Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show to broadcast live from our school this morning. The hall was full, the atmosphere was electric, and the excitement among the children was something we’ll never forget.
The entire event was so child-centred, and it was heart-warming to see how engaged and included the children were throughout. Ian, Mario and Shauna were absolutely fantastic with the kids — warm, patient, encouraging, and genuinely interested in everything they had to say. They helped make the morning truly special for every child involved.
A huge thank you to Ian, Mario, Charlie, Shauna, and the entire Today FM team for their professionalism, energy, and kindness. It was a pleasure to have you all with us.
We are also incredibly grateful to our fantastic Parents’ Association for organising refreshments on the day for the Today FM crew and the audience, and to our generous sponsors for supporting this special event including Lakeland Dairies, SuperValu Ballyconnell and The Lunch Bag. Thanks also to Karen Greene for all the photographs from the event.
It was truly a memorable day — one that will live long in the memories of the children and the whole school community
