Welcome to our school website. We hope you find our website both interesting and informative, as it gives an insight into life in our school. Through our website we hope to keep you regularly updated with our latest news and upcoming events.

St. Mogue’s National School, Currin (Scoil Náisiúnta Naomh Maodhóg, Currin) is a co-educational Roman Catholic school under the patronage of the Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of Kilmore. There are three mainstream class teachers, and two special education teachers. We currently have 66 children on our roll.

We are very proud of the school with its rich tradition of teaching and learning, together with sport and music. We take great pride in providing a safe and secure learning environment for all children of varying abilities and needs. Our school motto is: “Ag súgradh, ag foghlaim agus ag fás le chéile” (“Playing, learning and growing together”). Great emphasis is placed on fostering mutual and self-respect, which underpin the happy and secure atmosphere in our school.

Our staff is committed to establishing and maintaining a school environment that allows our pupils to grow spiritually, intellectually, emotionally, and socially.

Our Latest News….

Peaceplus Aspire Initiative

We are delighted to be participating in a Shared Education project with Killeshandra N.S. (C of I) this year, under the PEACEPLUS ASPIRE initiative. The overall aim of the project between our two schools is to develop an understanding and appreciation of each other’s religion, culture and traditions. We have had two ‘meet and greet’ events in each other’s school this term to date and there are a number of exciting events and trips organised for the rest of the school year.

World Book Day 2025

We celebrated World Book Day on March 7th. Well done to all the children (and teachers!) who dressed up as characters from their favourite books. All of the costumes were excellent and showed fabulous creativity.

‘Buddy reading’ took place in the hall where the older children demonstrated reading skills and then listened to their younger buddy’s reading. Buddy Reading allows younger readers to hear what fluent reading sounds like, and the older students develop social and emotional skills like patience and empathy as they work with their little buddies.

Stemtacular Science Fair 2025

The STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths) fair took place in the sports complex in Ballinamore on Thursday 27th February. The boys and girls in 4th, 5th & 6th class showcased seven projects that explored the following questions: What do we cry? Is “cracking” your fingers bad for you? How much sugar are children really consuming? How do wounds heal? Should we invest in solar panels? Why does hearing deteriorate with age? What is best design for paper airplanes? It was a wonderful event and the children thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Check out the GALLERY for all the photographs.

Grandparents Day Mass 2025

We celebrated Grandparents Day on Jan 22nd with a beautiful mass in our school. Refreshments were served afterwards which gave everyone a chance to catch up over a cup of tea. A huge ‘thank you’ to all our grandparents, the wider school community, the school staff, Fr Sean and all our wonderful boys and girls for making it such a special day. This was also Day 3 of our Wellbeing Week and what a wonderful way to express our love and gratitude to our grandparents.

Santa Visit 2024

We had a lovely day on Thursday 19th December, when Santa dropped in with a present for every child in the school. He was kindly chauffeured by Ballyconnell Fire Service. Check out the video below….

Happy Christmas everyone!

Christmas Market

Well done Holly for guessing the number of sweets in the jar at today’s Christmas market.

Thanks to everyone who contributed in any way to our Christmas market – it was a great success this year again. A special word of thanks to the parents who were run off their feet on the Parents’ Association stall, parents on car park duty and everyone who brought items for the bake sale.

Christmas Market – student stall

All set for tomorrow’s Christmas market! The boys and girls have been really busy this week making Yule Logs. These table centre-pieces along with their wellbeing calendars are available for €10 at the Currin NS stall. The market gets underway at 12 noon tomorrow (Sunday) in our school hall (H14 Y861). See you there!

St Mogue’s NS Wellbeing Calendars

Our 2025 Wellbeing calendars are now on sale for €10 from the school or at our Christmas market next Sunday 8th Dec. This beautiful glossy calendar has a positive message for every month of the year, promoting wellbeing, especially among young people. The project was completed by 4th, 5th & 6th classes as their business for the Junior Entrepreneur Programme (JEP).

The children would like to thank all the sponsors who made this project possible. All the profits from sales of this calendar will fund a wellbeing activity in our school in 2025.

This is a very apt and timely project as our school is currently promoting wellbeing among students, staff and the wider school community, as part of our School Improvement Plan.

Winter Educational Trip

We enjoyed a fantastic performance of Peter Pan pantomime in the Gaiety Theatre. Oh yes we did!! We then stopped off in St, Stephen’s Green to feed the ducks on our way to the National Archaeology Museum of Ireland.

Golf lessons in St. Mogue’s NS!

We may just have found the next Rory McIlroy and Leona Maguire!! As part of our Active School programme, the children in the senior room took part in a “Golf Taster” session with Cian Mulligan from Golf Ireland recently. This initiative is aimed at introducing primary school students to the game of golf in a fun, engaging and safe environment. It was a really enjoyable morning for all involved.
