With heavy hearts we say farewell to Maggie Geoghegan. Maggie has been our school secretary for the past 20 years, a position which was initially only a few informal hours a week and soon became two days as the workload increased. Maggie is exceptionally talented at her job. She quickly and effortlessly mastered any new systems that were introduced and we often marvelled at the volume of work she got through in such a short space of time, her ability to anticipate what was required and the speed and efficiency that went with everything she did. The many mass booklets produced, accounts drawn up and letters typed are, however, only a small element of what Maggie brought to our school. She was there at the start and end of every school venture, from concerts to church occasions, ever giving of her expertise, her wisdom and hands-on help and support in all that went on over the years. She has the gift of such a warm and pleasant manner in her day-to-day dealings with staff, parents and visitors. Maggie brightened everyone’s day with her kind heart, her quick wit and her interest in people that shone through all her daily interactions.
Maggie never missed an opportunity to speak to a child, to give a word of encouragement and ask a question with a smile and a nod of interest and approval. What a wonderful gift she has been to our school for such a long time. A cherished and valued member of our small school team, our “constant in an ever-changing world” and dear friend, we will all miss Maggie greatly.
We are glad that she doesn’t go far and that she has found a new challenge that she will enjoy. On behalf of all the school community we wish her every success and happiness in this new chapter of her life.
