St. Mogue’s National School, Currin (Scoil Náisiúnta Naomh Maodhóg, Currin) is a co-educational Roman Catholic school under the patronage of the Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of Kilmore. There are three mainstream class teachers, two Special Education Teachers (SET) and two Special Needs Assistants (SNA) in the school. We currently have 68 children on our roll.
We are very proud of the school with its rich tradition of teaching and learning, together with sport and music. We take great pride in providing a safe and secure learning environment for all children of varying abilities and needs. Our school motto is: “Ag súgradh, ag foghlaim agus ag fás le chéile” (“Playing, learning and growing together”). Great emphasis is placed on fostering mutual and self-respect, which underpin the happy and secure atmosphere in our school.
Our staff is committed to establishing and maintaining a school environment that allows our pupils to grow spiritually, intellectually, emotionally, and socially.

A warm welcome all our students returning to school and hope everyone had a lovely summer. We would like to extend a special welcome to our new Junior Infants – Ruairí, Noelle, Amelia, Daniel, Tommy, Evan and Tadhg. We hope they will find the transition to “big school” very smooth and wish them many happy years here
The middle classroom planted seed potatoes last term, and harvested those potatoes during their first week back at school this September. They then enjoyed the fruits of the labour – lovely chunky chips for a Friday treat! Thanks to Mrs. McManus for preparing the chips for everyone in the school.
Well done to Aoibheann Heery in First Class who donated her hair to “The Little Princess Trust” when she was getting a new short style this June.
The Little Princess Trust provides free real hair wigs to children and young people who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or other conditions.
We bid farewell to Aaron, Anie, Charlie, Fionán, Finn, Odhrán, Rory, Sam and Tara as they graduate from primary school. We wish them all the best as they start a new chapter of their lives. Thanks to each one of them for their contribution to school life in St. Mogue’s N.S., Currin. We will miss them all.
With heavy hearts we say farewell to Maggie Geoghegan. Maggie has been our school secretary for the past 20 years, a position which was initially only a few informal hours a week and soon became two days as the workload increased. Maggie is exceptionally talented at her job. She quickly and effortlessly mastered any new systems that were introduced and we often marvelled at the volume of work she got through in such a short space of time, her ability to anticipate what was required and the speed and efficiency that went with everything she did. The many mass booklets produced, accounts drawn up and letters typed are, however, only a small element of what Maggie brought to our school. She was there at the start and end of every school venture, from concerts to church occasions, ever giving of her expertise, her wisdom and hands-on help and support in all that went on over the years. She has the gift of such a warm and pleasant manner in her day-to-day dealings with staff, parents and visitors. Maggie brightened everyone’s day with her kind heart, her quick wit and her interest in people that shone through all her daily interactions.
Maggie never missed an opportunity to speak to a child, to give a word of encouragement and ask a question with a smile and a nod of interest and approval. What a wonderful gift she has been to our school for such a long time. A cherished and valued member of our small school team, our “constant in an ever-changing world” and dear friend, we will all miss Maggie greatly.
We are glad that she doesn’t go far and that she has found a new challenge that she will enjoy. On behalf of all the school community we wish her every success and happiness in this new chapter of her life.
Picker Pals is a fun environmental activity programme for primary school children, their families, schools and communities. Through fun stories and songs and a special pack containing everything needed for litter-picking, Picker Pals motivates children to lead litter-picking adventures with their families. Picker Pals gives children the opportunity to make the world a better place.
Every weekend, three families in the school receive the Picker Pals pack and get to work in their local area to collect as much litter as they can. This has proven to be a very enjoyable and successful initiative and the benefits can be seen all around our local environment. Well done to all the children in the school (and their parents!) for all their work, and to Mrs. Mills for coordinating this initiative. All the photos can be found in the gallery.
We celebrated Engineers Week on our first week back in school after lockdown. We had great fun making cocktail-stick structures, marble runs and other projects. 5th and 6th classes worked on their projects at home. Here’s a compilation of all our work….
A huge ‘Welcome Back’ to all our students in junior infants, senior infants, 1st class, 2nd class, 3rd and 4th class. After an 8-week school closure due to Covid-19, we were all delighted to return to the classroom on 1st March. It was lovely to see all the happy faces arriving at school for the first time in 2021. All going well, 5th and 6th classes will be back on March 15th. Well done to everyone (students and parents!) for all all the hard work and high levels of engagement during home-schooling since Christmas.
