Welcome to our school website. We hope you find our website both interesting and informative, as it gives an insight into life in our school. Through our website we hope to keep you regularly updated with our latest news and upcoming events.

St. Mogue’s National School, Currin (Scoil Náisiúnta Naomh Maodhóg, Currin) is a co-educational Roman Catholic school under the patronage of the Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of Kilmore. There are three mainstream class teachers, two Special Education Teachers (SET) and two Special Needs Assistants (SNA)  in the school. We currently have 68 children on our roll.

We are very proud of the school with its rich tradition of teaching and learning, together with sport and music. We take great pride in providing a safe and secure learning environment for all children of varying abilities and needs. Our school motto is: “Ag súgradh, ag foghlaim agus ag fás le chéile” (“Playing, learning and growing together”). Great emphasis is placed on fostering mutual and self-respect, which underpin the happy and secure atmosphere in our school.

Our staff is committed to establishing and maintaining a school environment that allows our pupils to grow spiritually, intellectually, emotionally, and socially.

Congratulations to Hugh, Aaron, Éilis, Jane, Leah, Cuán, Lily, Michael and Kyle who made their Confirmation yesterday in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Ballyconnell. Thanks to everyone who helped out in any way to make the day so memorable for the children. A special word of thanks to Ballyconnell Folk Group for the beautiful singing and music during the ceremony

Inland Fisheries Ireland Visit

We had a visit from Inland Fisheries Ireland today who taught the children all about fish and aquatic life in our local streams, rivers and lakes. The children were able to observe a large variety of fish and aquatic insects which were on display in our school hall. It was a very interesting and enjoyable workshop.

Swimming Lessons

That’s swimming lessons done and dusted for another year!
As part of our Wellbeing and Active School programmes, the children from 1st-6th classes enjoyed lessons in Cavan Swimming Pool over the past six weeks.
Next up….a 6-week block of volleyball lessons starting after the Easter break.

World Book Day 2025

We celebrated World Book Day on March 6th. Well done to all the children (and teachers!) who dressed up as characters from their favourite books. All of the costumes were excellent and showed fabulous creativity.
‘Buddy reading’ took place in the hall where the older children demonstrated reading skills and then listened to their younger buddy’s reading. Buddy Reading allows younger readers to hear what fluent reading sounds like, and the older students develop social and emotional skills like patience and empathy as they work with their little buddies.

Community Fund Donation

We would like express our gratitude to Ballyconnell Credit Union for their generous ‘Community Fund’ donation to our school for the purchase of PE resources. This fund enabled us to purchase mini trampolines, crawl tunnels, Jump Ball Bunny Hoppers and a range of resources for sensory circuits.

STEMtacular 2025

Stemtacular 2025 – The STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths) fair took place in the sports complex in Ballinamore on 27th February.
The boys and girls in 4th, 5th & 6th class showcased seven projects that explored the following questions: What do we cry? Is “cracking” your fingers bad for you? How much sugar are children really consuming? How do wounds heal? Should we invest in solar panels? Why does hearing deteriorate with age? What is best design for paper airplanes?
It was a wonderful event and the children thoroughly enjoyed the experience

Peaceplus Aspire Initiative

We are delighted to be participating in a Shared Education project with Killeshandra N.S. (C of I) this year, under the PEACEPLUS ASPIRE initiative. The overall aim of the project between our two schools is to develop an understanding and appreciation of each other’s religion, culture and traditions. We have had two ‘meet and greet’ events in each other’s school this term to date and there are a number of exciting events and trips organised for the rest of the school year.
