St. Mogue’s National School, Currin (Scoil Náisiúnta Naomh Maodhóg, Currin) is a co-educational Roman Catholic school under the patronage of the Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of Kilmore. There are three mainstream class teachers, two Special Education Teachers (SET) and two Special Needs Assistants (SNA) in the school. We currently have 68 children on our roll.
We are very proud of the school with its rich tradition of teaching and learning, together with sport and music. We take great pride in providing a safe and secure learning environment for all children of varying abilities and needs. Our school motto is: “Ag súgradh, ag foghlaim agus ag fás le chéile” (“Playing, learning and growing together”). Great emphasis is placed on fostering mutual and self-respect, which underpin the happy and secure atmosphere in our school.
Our staff is committed to establishing and maintaining a school environment that allows our pupils to grow spiritually, intellectually, emotionally, and socially.

We recently replaced fluorescent light fittings in the main corridor and junior room with LED fittings. This was funded by the SSE Renewables Community Benefit Fund (Corneen Community Fund). This project will reduce our electricity costs but more importantly have a positive impact on our environment!
We celebrated World Book Day early in St. Mogue’s this year! Well done to all the children (and teachers!) who dressed up as characters from books on February 2nd. All of the costumes were excellent and showed fabulous creativity. ‘Buddy reading’ took place in the hall where the older children read to the younger children and listened to their reading.
Our basketball coach, Riccardo, began a 6-week coaching initiative for all classes in the school on Jan 6th. This is a fantastic opportunity for the children to learn the basic skills and rules of basketball from an experienced player and coach who plays with Cavan Lakers.
We have a packed schedule of events for the rest of the school year as part of our Active School initiative including basketball, football, swimming, athletics and creative dance.
We welcomed Santa to St. Mogue’s N.S. on December 20th. He arrived in style…..and had a present for every child in the school! Check out the day’s events below….
Huge congratulations to all the children from St. Mogue’s N.S. on a truly wonderful display of talent in this year’s Christmas variety show which took place on December 16th. It was a memorable night and a fantastic experience for everyone involved. Thanks to everyone who contributed in any way to make it such a success. The DVDs are on sale at €15.
We have a new school motto! A motto tells everyone what our school represents, what our values are and the experience we believe every child should have in our school
Our new school motto is: “Ag súgradh, ag foghlaim agus ag fás le chéile” (“Playing, learning and growing together”).
We have intentionally put “ag súgradh” first in our motto as we aim to ensure our school is a welcoming, fun and safe environment for every child. Great emphasis is placed on fostering mutual and self-respect, which underpin the happy and secure atmosphere in our school.
“Ag foghlaim” – we strive to have a very high standard of teaching and learning in our school. High standards and high expectations are promoted, but above all, we seek to instil in our children a joy of learning, which they will carry with them throughout their lives and will enable them as responsible citizens to play a full and positive role in society.
“ag fás” means growing – not just physical and academic development, but moral, spiritual, social and personal development.
And we do all this “le chéile” (together) – a collaborative approach by pupils, parents, teachers and the wider community.
What a day we had at the Peace Proms rehearsals in the National Indoor Arena on Dec 7th! We stopped off at Jump Zone in Santry on our way home…for a little rest and relaxation!!
Well done to all the children who brought in boxes for this year’s Team Hope Christmas Shoebox Appeal. An Amazing 59 boxes were collected from our school for children in Africa and Eastern Europe.
We are heading to the 2023 Peace Proms!! We will be performing at the Simmonscourt Arena, RDS, Dublin on Sunday 5th of February 2023.
