A huge ‘Welcome Back’ to all our students in junior infants, senior infants, 1st class, 2nd class, 3rd and 4th class. After an 8-week school closure due to Covid-19, we were all delighted to return to the classroom on 1st March. It was lovely to see all the happy faces arriving at school for the first time in 2021. All going well, 5th and 6th classes will be back on March 15th. Well done to everyone (students and parents!) for all all the hard work and high levels of engagement during home-schooling since Christmas.

Our Latest News….
Master McGowan Retirement
On Monday 21st December 2020, we gathered as a school community in St. Patrick’s Church, Kilnavart to acknowledge the huge contribution Master McGowan made, as principal for 26 years, in St. Mogue’s National School, Currin.
It was a lovely occasion to thank Brendan for his dedication and leadership and to wish him good health and happiness in his retirement. Due to Covid restrictions our numbers at the mass were limited but everyone was able to join us on Facebook live for this special occasion. There were presentations on behalf of the staff, the Parents’ Association and the Board of Management. It was particularly nice that Brendan’s parents, Mairtín and Betty, were in attendance along with his wife Karen and children. Mairtín and Betty were both teachers in Currin and the McGowan family have over one hundred years of teaching service in Currin between them! Our sincere thanks to Fr. Seán for a really lovely ceremony.
Pictured above is Master Brendan McGowan following his retirement mass and presentations in St. Patrick’s Church, Kilnavart. Brendan is pictured with his wife Karen, and deputy principal Mrs. Evelyn McManus.
School crest
The school crest has been updated, with the original colours and features retained. The navy trim and red body of the crest represent the traditional school colours, which make up the school uniform and school football jersey. The yellow feature in the centre of the crest represents the Killycluggin stone. On the stone, the tri-spiral (otherwise known as the “Spiral of Life”) represents the Celtic La Tene style of carving of that era. Most scholars believe the spiral of life represents the cycle of life, death, and rebirth
Christmas 2020 Carol service
Due to Covid restrictions, we couldn’t have our carol service in the church this Christmas.
Mr. Sweeney assembled musicians and singers to perform a few Christmas carols in our school hall. We hope you enjoy the performance!

The Saint Mogue’s Céilí Band was formed over 50 years ago by local musicians Seamus McGovern, Seamus Smith and PJ Flood. We have revived the band in recent years here in St.
Mogue’s National School. Our band consists of members from every class in the school with a variety of instruments including tin whistles, flutes accordion, concertina, banjo and guitar.
The band is made up of Lucy Maguire, Seamus and Mark Edwards, Donal Corrigan, Ruairi McManus, James McManus, James Wetherall, Diarmuid McGovern, Fiachra McManus, Sean Brady, Amy Cosgrove, Sarah Maguire, Sam Maguire. Past members include Bláthnaid Smith and Brónagh Brady.

Our new sensory garden
Mrs Mills designed and created a beautiful new sensory garden, which can be accessed from the SEN room. This garden provides an opportunity for learning outdoors in a stimulating setting. It is a fantastic addition to our school and will benefit children for years to come. Thanks to Mrs. Mills, Joey and all her sponsors for their work and support is creating this beautiful outdoor space.
Yoga
Thanks to Mrs McManus for the fabulous yoga classes. We got lovely new yoga mats which were cleaned after each use. The senior room will be doing yoga in the new year. See gallery section for some photos.
