Welcome to our school website. We hope you find our website both interesting and informative, as it gives an insight into life in our school. Through our website we hope to keep you regularly updated with our latest news and upcoming events.

St. Mogue’s National School, Currin (Scoil Náisiúnta Naomh Maodhóg, Currin) is a co-educational Roman Catholic school under the patronage of the Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of Kilmore. There are three mainstream class teachers, two Special Education Teachers (SET) and two Special Needs Assistants (SNA)  in the school. We currently have 68 children on our roll.

We are very proud of the school with its rich tradition of teaching and learning, together with sport and music. We take great pride in providing a safe and secure learning environment for all children of varying abilities and needs. Our school motto is: “Ag súgradh, ag foghlaim agus ag fás le chéile” (“Playing, learning and growing together”). Great emphasis is placed on fostering mutual and self-respect, which underpin the happy and secure atmosphere in our school.

Our staff is committed to establishing and maintaining a school environment that allows our pupils to grow spiritually, intellectually, emotionally, and socially.

Our Latest News….

Mary’s Meal Fundraiser

An amazing €1065 was collected recently by the St Mogue’s N.S. community for the Mary’s Meals charity. The children presented the cheque to Patricia Shannon, from Mary’s Meals, earlier this week. Patricia informed us that this money will feed 48 children every day for a full school year, providing 9,688 meals for some of the most vulnerable children in Malawi. Well done everyone!

Boys FAI Primary 5s Success

Well done to our two boys’ teams who took part in the FAI primary 5s football competition in sun-drenched Bailieborough today. All 15 players played their hearts out and should be very proud of themselves. Congratulations to the ‘Currin I’ team who qualified for the county finals next Tuesday!

Bodhrán-making Workshop

The boys and girls from 4th, 5th & 6th classes enjoyed a bodhrán-making workshop today. They made their own instrument from scratch, and then learned how to play it! This was part of the ‘Gaeilge le Chéile’ initiative with St. Mogue’s College, St Aidan’s NS Bawnboy, Scoil Mhuire Swanlinbar and Ballyconnell Central N.S.

World Book Day 2024

We celebrated World Book Day in St. Mogue’s on March 7th. Well done to all the children (and teachers!) who dressed up as characters from their favourite books. All of the costumes were excellent and showed fabulous creativity. Check out the Gallery for all the photos.

Credit Union Quiz success

Well done to the four teams from our school who took part in the Ballyconnell Credit Union Quiz in Templeport Resource Centre recently. Congratulations to Natalie McIntyre, Eve Magee, Lucy Maguire and Luke McKiernan -Stojak who took 3rd place in the under 13 competition and to our under-11 team consisting of Matthew McManus, Hugh McCauley, Jane Cosgrove and Aoibheann Heery who finished joint-first after an epic battle with Ballyconnell NS (where they couldn’t be separated after four tie-breaker rounds!). We wish the u11 team all the best as they represent our school in the next stage of the competition.

Junior Winter Educational Trip

The junior room’s winter educational trip took place on St. Mogue’s Day (January 31st). The boys and girls had a wonderful day, that began with a boat trip to St. Mogue’s Island where they got a guided tour the island and the church remains by Aidan Brady. They then visited the holy water font in St Aidan’s church Bawnboy, which is said to be part of the flagstone that carried St. Mogue across the lake to be baptised by St. Caillin. The children ended their trip with a visit to Ballyconnell library for storytelling.

Grandparents Day 2024

We celebrated Grandparents Day on Jan 24th with a beautiful mass in our school. Refreshments were served afterwards which gave everyone a chance to catch up over a cup of tea. A huge ‘thank you’ to all our grandparents, the wider school community, the school staff, Fr Sean and all our wonderful boys and girls for making it such a special day. STEM Project

We would like to sincerely thank our Parents Association who kindly donated €3000 for our STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) project in the school recently. This funding was used to install shelving, purchase storage containers and a huge array of STEM resources including: electricity kits; magnetism kits; model torso, skeleton, heart, ear, eye and lungs; Liquid measurement kit; model solar system; metal strip identification kits; stethoscopes; simple machines kits; rock, mineral and fossil collections; hovercraft construction kit; orienteering equipment; tangrams; classroom clock kits; pooters and magnifying glasses; and Numicon sets.

These resources will benefit all the children in the school, to aid ‘hands-on’ learning through self-discovery and guided-discovery. Keep an eye on our social media pages later this week for photos of this recent investment.
